Dan LaRocque photoAnnouncing the completion of my first novel "Lord's Day Sweater" (formerly Inauspicious Ending). It's a character-driven story about a family living in early 20th century Canada, awash in the modest mischief of their lives while history swirls around them. It follows two brothers, George and Samuel Doyle, sons to Buddy and Marie, a mixed English/French family, atypical of the two Canadian solitudes and the perceived roles of the time. It begins on an Ottawa Valley farmhouse in 1899 before moving on to urban Ottawa, Montreal, and into France and the 1st world war. The book has undergone two edits for content and style and has been sent to an agent for consideration. For the full synopsis click here. Lord's Day Sweater or read the first 50 pages

picture of Dan LaRocqueI'm Dan LaRocque, a songwriter, author and musician presently living in Parksville on Vancouver Island. I played with Dave Dawson, Russell Joyce and Vancouver's Sick Sick Yeah throughout the 90s and released a solo record as Larry (Skips Like Us - 1998) before moving to rural BC in 2000 to help raise my young family. My newest project Parksville Rancher recently recorded five new songs with one of them appearing on the full-length political anti-tribute to Premier Campbell, Citizens Rule.

When not writing and performing music I play beer-league hockey, drive a 1980 Suburban, feed 2 happy dogs and wrestle with 2 growing sons. My wife, Shirra Wall is the artist behind Shining Sun Gardenworks and I work as webmaster and marketer for this successful enterprise. Unfinished book projects include a biography of the life and work of Mike Dick, master Tattooist, and The Last Living Pacer, a novel about forced labour camps in Northern Canada for student loan defaulters.
photo of dan larocque and dave dawson I was born in Ottawa, Canada in 1968, the "Winter of Discontent" just after the "Summer of Love" I dropped out of Ridgemont High School in 1985 where I met my longtime musical partner Dave Dawson. I hitchhiked across Canada a few times as well as through Europe, busking my way through England, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal

My most popular songs so far are the Ballad of Les Battersby and Wrestle With Me Xena, probably because they're about already-popular characters, though The Mad Trapper From Rat River makes a strong showing as does Big Bigger Bigot and Thorns and All. My co-writing credits with Dave Dawson reveal other gems like Deadeye Dick, N.F.B.S.G, I Can't Land This and Vanilla.

I've always been a bit of a shit disturber going back to the Peace Camp on Parliament Hill in the 80's. My most recent rabble rousing project is Citizens Rule and the BCFiberals anti-Campbell cd compilation and website. Previous to that was bank-b-gone.com established in 1998 and featuring anti-bank songs, t-shirts and post cards. It's full of articles, music, a few video productions and sundries.

Lyrics and direct downloads to songs by Dan LaRocque, Sick Sick Yeah, Dave Dawson, Larry and Bank-b-gone records. G'Day

The Only Home You've Ever Known cowboy song in the old school tradition with yodeling and harmonica solo. "When you hate everything and everyboy, you ain't had a smoke in seven days, On the trail that runs from Dawsom to Kentucky it's not so much the miles as the malaise...."

The Ballad of Les Battersby heartfelt tribute to the 'handsomest man in all Weatherfield', Coronation Street's greatest Anti-hero. Here are the lyrics

I Can't Land This A song about drugs and Sick Sick Yeah's first ever hit

Here are songs from the third Sick Sick Yeah release They Had to Eat Food. We're currently adding new songs and formats from the rest of the SSY catalogue.
